Stroll of the City
Art is everywhere on Super First Friday.
By Susan Froyd
Published: October 4, 2007Denver Arts Week is out of the chute today, spewing a downright miasma of cultural events, all of them held together by one loose thematic thread. It'll be hard to pick and choose; still, you wouldn't want to miss tonight's Super First Friday, wherein five Denver arts districts pull out the stops for a First Friday like no other, with special events to complement the usual array of receptions and new shows.
Venture, for instance, to RiNo (the area roughly bounded by I-70, I-25, Park Avenue West and Lawrence Street) tonight. You might want to do so on a scooter or a bike for the environmentally friendly Ride the RiNo Open Studio Tour, complete with convenient bike valet locations provided at 36th and Chestnut streets and 34th and Blake streets. Enjoy drum circles and fire dancers as you stroll down Santa Fe Drive between Fifth and Tenth avenues, or watch the High Plein Air Arts Festival, in progress nearby in the Golden Triangle (bordered by Lincoln, Speer and Colfax). On Tennyson Street, Lapis Gallery, 3971 Tennyson, will display Emma Skala's edible art cakes, while Cherry Creek North galleries host live art along with food tastings.
