But the fun starts tonight with a Bette Davis Bar Crawl, which kicks off at 8 p.m. at Hamburger Marys, 700 East 17th Avenue. The crawl is hosted by San Francisco entertainer and Bette Davis impersonator Matthew Martin (channeling Davis doing Margo Channing) and the Denver Roller Dolls. And Martin is certainly entertaining. He remembers, as a child, holding a tape recorder up to his TV to record the Davis classic All About Eve. I didnt understand the sophisticated dialogue at the time, he says. I really didnt even know why I was taping it, but something beyond myself was compelling me. Now hes starring in an all-male remake of Whatever Happened to Baby Jane?, currently in post-production.
Catch Martin at Hamburger Marys or tomorrow at Awful Things, where hell also host a 7 p.m. screening of Baby Jane (and a preview screening of his own flick), accompanied by Vivenne VaVoom and her V Burlesque girls and the Denver Gay Mens Chorus.
Tickets to Awful Things are $15 to $50; for information on all events, visit www.denverlibrary.org/babyjane or call 303-733-7743, extension 107.
